Khoka’s body arrives in Dhaka

The body of BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka has arrived in Dhaka.

A flight of Emirates carrying his body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 08:26am on Thursday, confirmed BNP Chairperson’s Press Wing Official Shayrul Kabir Khan.

BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku received Khoka’s coffin at the airport.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) declared Thursday a holiday as a mark of respect to the former mayor of now defunct Dhaka City Corporation.

Four janazas – in front of South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad at 11am, BNP central office after Zuhr prayers, at the Nagar Bhaban at 3pm, and in Dhupkhola field after Asr prayers – will be held in Dhaka for Khoka.

His body will also be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar from 12pm-1pm for masses to pay their last respect.

From Nagar Bhaban, Khoka’s body is expected to be taken to his Gopibagh residence. He will be buried at the Jurain Graveyard beside the graves of his parents as per his last wish.

Sadeque Hossain Khoka, 67, also a freedom fighter, had long been suffering from cancer, and died at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York around 1:50pm (BST) on Monday.

Khoka is survived by his wife, sons and a host of relatives, and well-wishers.
