EC should take responsibility for attacking journalists in elections: BMSF

Election Commission (EC) should take responsibility for brutal attacks on journalists during the two city elections on Saturday.
The attack was strongly condemned by the Bangladesh Mafossol Journalist Forum (BMSF), saying that journalists were being injured or crippled in various elections in different parts of the Dhaka City.

If such practices continue, journalists of the country will lose interest in the responsibility during the elections. In a press statement, BMSF central president Shahidul Islam Pilot and general secretary Ahmed Abu Jafar said the injured journalists had to be compensated with medical care from the government treasury during the elections.

According to the BMSF, the miscreants attacked Sheikh Hasan , the chief photographer of Kalakantha, at the MotherTech school center. Press Bangla Agency-PBA Special Representative Zisad Iqbal was beaten in Nikunje and Agami News reporter Mostafizur Rahman Sumon injured in Rayer bazar.

The BMSF has stated that the Chief Election commissioner’s responsibility cannot be avoided in any way. He has to take responsibility for the attacks on journalists and compensate them. Immediately, the government was urged to enact laws to curb journalist torture.
