District police have started distributing warm clothes to the distressed, helpless and poor people to mitigate their sufferings caused by the ongoing cold wave.
On Tuesday evening, a team of district police led by superintendent of police (SP) Md Towhidul Islam handed over 500 pieces of blankets among the poor people at rail station and its adjoining areas.
Towhidul Islam at that time said the district police are conducting distribution activities of warm clothes on humanitarian ground to save the poor from the cold wave with maintaining law and order situation in the district.
The blankets distribution activity by the district police would continue, he said.
Officer in charge of Sadar Police Station Md. Mahfuzur Rahman and other police officials accompanied the SP during the warm clothes distribution.
The warm clothes distribution by the district police has been highly lauded. The police stood beside the poor with blankets at such a time when a cold wave sweeps over the district creating untold suffering to the destitute people.
