The government has approved public transports to ply in all cities across the country, subject to compliance with the conditions, after reconsidering the issue of sufferings of people and workers of various government and non-government institutions including during the lockdown situation.
Awami League general secretary, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader came up with the disclosure in a press briefing at his official residence in the capital on Tuesday (April 06) afternoon.
He said, “Public transports will run in Dhaka, Chattogram, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Barisal, Rangpur and Mymensingh city corporation areas from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm with half of the seats vacant.”
He said, “At the beginning and end of every trip, the buses must be disinfected with antiseptic and transport related workers and passengers must wear masks and use hand sanitizer.”
Awami League general secretary also made it clear that no additional fair can be collected in any way. He also said that long-distance public transport would remain suspended till further notice.
He said the decision will come into effect from Wednesday (April 7) and remain in force until further notice.
