Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has said that Bangladesh is mainly an agricultural country and it is the biggest means of our development.
The premier said this while addressing virtually from Gonobhabon on the occasion of the founding anniversary of Bangladesh Krishak League on Monday (April 19).
PM said, “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman liberated Bangladesh through many struggles to fulfill the basic rights of the people of Bangladesh- food, clothing, shelter, medical care, education and health care. On the founding anniversary of Krishka League, I extend my sincere greetings to all the farmers of Bangladesh. Because, they produce food by burning in the sun, wetting in the rain and throwing sweat on their feet. We survive by eating that food. So, we always support them and cooperate with them- it is the duty of the Bangladesh Awami League.”
She said, “Since the Awami League came to power, the farmers have not suffered any more. Because, we have taken appropriate measures for them. We have arranged loan for them through Krishi Bank without mortgage. The price of fertilizer was Tk 90 during the BNP government, we have brought it down to Tk 12 today. We are producing improved seeds through research and supplying the seeds. We are mechanizing agriculture so that farmers can produce more food. We are subsidizing the electricity used by farmers for irrigation.”
Sheikh Hasina said, “Today’s Bangladesh is a digital Bangladesh. Farmers can take pictures on their mobile phones to know the condition of their crops, soil condition or soil test and what kind of fertilizers to use, how much to use or whether to use pesticides or how much to do.”
