‘If we do not take lesson, third wave may be terrible’

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said “If we do not take lesson from mistakes and maintain health guidelines, the third wave of coronavirus may be terrible”.

The minister made the remark at a news briefing on ‘Vaccine and Contemporary Issues’ on the BCPS premises at Mohakhali in the city on Tuesday noon.

“A total of 7,000 patients across the country are now receiving corona treatment. If people do not want to follow the rules of hygiene and the number of patients increases, there will be no place in hospitals. People will not get treatment. So there is no alternative to obeying the hygiene rules. If we do not take lesson from mistakes, the third wave of corona may be terrible”, he said.

The health minister said the government is spending Tk 50,000 for each corona patient in the ICU of the hospitals. And the cost for a normal patient is Tk 15 thousand. There were 2500 beds for corona patients in Dhaka. Now its number has increased to seven thousand beds. We have arranged corona treatment facility in every hospital. Corona is also being treated at TB Hospital, Gastroliver Hospital and Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute.
