Parts of Bangladesh celebrate Eid

Eid is celebrated today, Thursday (May 13) in several places of Chattogram, Maulvibazar and Jamalpur in keeping with Saudi Arabia. Eid congregations were held in those places this morning.

The holy Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in several places of Chattogram, and at least 40 villages of Satkania, Chandanaish, Bashkhali, Patia, Boalkhali, Hathazari, Raozan and Fatikchhari. Followers of the Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif in Satkania upazila were seen to observe Eid on the same day as Saudi Arabia. The main Eid congregation was held at the Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif grounds at 10:00am.

Followers of the Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif in Lama, Alikadam and Naikhangchhari of the hill district Bandarban, and several villages of Chokoria, Teknaf, Maheshkhali and Kutubdia of Cox’s Bazar also observed Eid on Thursday.

Spokesperson of Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif Mufti Maulana Md Masudur Rahman said, the darbar sharif has been observing holy Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha in keeping with Saudi Arabia for about 200 years. This year, Eid is being celebrated at more than 40 villages of Chattogram. Large congregation was avoided this time too because of coronavirus. The followers held smaller congregations in their respective areas.

More than 100 persons in Maulvibazar took part in the Eid congregation on Thursday. The Eid congregation was held at 7:00am on the roof of a house, Ahmed Shabista, in the Circuit House area of Maulvibazar town. Abdul Moufiq Chowdhury conducted the prayers. After the Eid prayer, the devotees also offered prayers for the nation as well as the Muslims of Palestine. It is learnt that they had been observing Eid in keeping with Saudi Arabia for a long time now.

People from several villages offered their Eid prayers at 8:00am on the South Balardiya Jame Masjid grounds in Sarishabari, Jamalpur. Maulana Azim Uddin conducted the prayers.
