Law Minister Anisul Huq said that the Ministry of Law has given its opinion to suspend Khaleda Zia’s sentence and extend her release for another six months. However, if Khaleda Zia wants to go abroad, she will have to go to jail first and then apply. It will depend on the discretion of the government whether it will be approved then.
He made the remarks to the reporters after attending a programme on Sunday (September 12).
The Minister said, “According to the section 401 of the Criminal Procedure Code, there is no scope to reconsider the application to send Khaleda Zia abroad. She has to go to jail and apply again. However, it is not like that the application will not be approved once it is submitted, it will depend on the government.”
Mentionable, Khaleda Zia’s younger brother Shamim Eskander has applied to the Home Ministry seeking unconditional release for Khaleda Zia. Meanwhile, the suspension of Khaleda’s sentence will expire on September 15.
