Mother, son burnt in Mugda fire die

A woman and her son, who sustained burn injuries in a fire originated from gas cylinder leakage at their home in Dhaka’s Mugda area on Monday (November 22), have died.

They breathed their last while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The deceased were identified as Priyanka, 30 and her five-year old son Arup.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp in-charge (inspector) Md Bachchu Mia confirmed their deaths on Tuesday (November 23) morning.

Arup, with 67 percent burn injuries, died around 11:30 pm yesterday while his mother Priyanka, with 72 percent burns, died at midnight, said Dr SM Ayub Hosen, resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The two other victims – Priyanka’s husband Sudhanshu, 36, and her mother Shefali, 55, are undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical state, the doctor added.
