Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the owner of ‘MV Abhijan-10’ Hamjalal Sheikh in connection with the deadly fire at the three-decker vessel in the Sugandha River in Jhalakathi on Friday (December 24).
The elite force arrested him from Keraniganj, outskirts area of Dhaka.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin confirmed his arrest on Monday (December 27).
Advocate Nazmul Islam Nasir, chairman of Baliatoli union parisahd of Barguna district, yesterday filed a case with Barguna Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against 25 people including the owner of MV Abhijan-10 Hamjalal Sheikh in connection with the deadly fire incident in the launch.
A terrible fire swept through the Barguna-bound MV Abhijan-10 on the Sugandha river in Jhalakathi around 3 am on December 24, killing at least 39 people and injuring more than 70 people.
