The Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, are knocking at the door. So, people have started for village homes to celebrate the festival with near and dear ones, creating heavy crowds on Dhaka-Tangail highway. However, the traffic movement remains normal till now.
Additional pressure of home-goers was seen at Chandra in Gazipur as people started for homes early to escape hassle. Many of them, who have not got leaves, are sending their family members to homes early.
Bus drivers say, people will start their journeys simultaneously on Wednesday afternoon, creating heavy crisis of vehicles and putting people on sufferings on the roads.
It was learned that nearly 2,000 apparel factories in Gazipur. Several lakhs of employees work in these factories. Most of them will go home on the Eid. The factories will go on leave from Thursday gradually.
Garment worker Apel Mahmud said, “Traffic congestion will begin when the garment factories will go on leave. So, I sent my families home. Now there is low traffic congestion as well as less fare.”
Driver Zakir Hossain said, “Number of passengers are still normal. I guess the pressure will increase with the Eid coming closer.”
Salna Konabari Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Hossain said, “Traffic movement is normal on highways. Additional 200 officers will work at Chandra Intersection during Eid rush so that people do not have to face sufferings.”
