Taka devalued against dollar again

Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Monday (June 6) once again devalued the taka against the US dollar.

The US dollar exchange rate for interbank transactions was fixed at Tk 91.50, down by Tk 1.60.

Earlier on Thursday, the central bank had fixed the dollar at Tk 89.90. The value of dollar has increased by six times in a month while taka has been devalued by Tk 5.05 during the period.

On May 29, the central bank fixed the dollar rate at Tk 89 in the country. But on Monday the rate was lifted. Immediately after this, the price of dollar was increased.

Sirajul Islam, executive director and spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, said the price has been set considering the growing demand in the open market.
