Product prices go up due to higher profits than extortion: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the price of daily necessities increases in Dhaka due to the thought of more profit than extortion. However, a special police drive is going on to prevent extortion.

He said this in response to a question from journalists after the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Security’ course at the Bangladesh Police Staff College in Mirpur of the capital on Saturday (March 23) around 11:30 am.

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, Police-RAB is in strict position to prevent extortion. What is being sold at 20 taka in Karwan Bazar is being sold at 40 taka a short distance away. More influence than extortion in this case i.e. thinking of more profit. We have calculated how much money is required to extort a truck from Jessore to Dhaka.

The Home Minister said that the Dhaka-Chittagong highway has already been brought under cameras to stop extortion. In future, all highways will be covered by cameras.

How to take action against those who are increasing the prices of everyday products by making excessive profit, the home minister said in response, apart from the law and order forces, various forces including consumer rights are working here. Law and order forces are performing their assigned duties whenever they come to notice.

He said that it will be possible to prevent excessive profit if the sale of daily necessities starts in the neighborhood by discussing with those who are making more profit.

Rector of Police Staff College (Additional IGP) presided over the event. Mallik Fakhrul Islam.

The senior secretary of the public security department of the Ministry of Home Affairs was the special guest. Mostafizur Rahman, IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, National University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Mashiur Rahman etc
