One missing, one injured after trawler overturns in Meghna river

A passenger was missing and the driver of the trawler was injured in a collision between two trawlers carrying cement and passengers in the Meghna river on Sunday (March 24) morning. The name of the missing person is Shahidullah Ghazi (48). He is a resident of South Tarabunia Union of Sakhipur Police Station of Vedarganj Upazila of Shariatpur. Injured trawler driver Monir Hossain has been admitted to Chandpur Sadar Hospital.

According to naval police and local sources, on Sunday morning, a man named Monir Hossain left Chandpur with passengers in a trawler towards Sakhipur’s Afa Mollar market in Shariatpur district. On reaching Rajarajeshwar area of Meghna river, the passenger trawler collided with the Barisal-bound trawler carrying cement. At that time a passenger named Shahidullah Gazi fell into the river and went missing.

Misr Alam Molya, a member of South Tarabunia Union Parishad, said that Monir Hossain’s trawler met with an accident on the way to Afa Mollar market from Chandpur. At that time, one named Shahidullah Gazi went missing. Monir Hossain has been admitted to Chandpur Hospital. ”

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Naval Police Station. Kamruzzaman said, “One person is missing in the collision of two trawlers. The diving team will work to rescue him from tomorrow morning.”
