The Great Independence and National Day was celebrated at Vishwanath in Sylhet through various programs. On Tuesday morning, the day was started by firing 31 cannons in the premises of Shaheed Minar of the upazila. At 6 am, floral tributes were offered to martyrs at Shaheed Minar.
AK Upazila Administration, Upazila Parishad, Biswanath Police Station Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad, Biswanath Press Club, Upazila Awami League and affiliated organizations, Upazila Ansar and VDP, Office of Health and Family Planning Officer, Office of Election Officer, Fire Service and Civil Defence, Sylhet Vishwanath zonal office of Palli Vidyut-1 and various political and social organizations offered floral tributes.
Later, a national flag hoisting and parade was organized at the upazila parishad ground. At 8:30 in the morning, sports competitions, cultural programs and prize distribution were held at the Upazila Parishad ground. At 3 pm in the Upazila Parishad Auditorium, a reception-discussion meeting was held for the families of brave freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters.
Under the chairmanship of upazila executive officer Shahina Akter and upazila youth development officer Mahbub Alam Sarkar, the chief guest spoke at the event. Nunu Mia Biswanath Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Dayal Uddin Talukdar, Upazila Awami League Joint Secretary Makddach Ali, Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad former Commander Abdul Waheed and freedom fighter’s son Syed Jalal Mia spoke as special guests.
