No one in the family survived, and Sonia, who was electrocuted, also passed away

Child Sonia Sultana (8) also died due to electrocution in Moulvibazar Juri. With this, the number of deaths in the same house stands at 6.

He died around 4 pm on Tuesday after being taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery from Sylhet in Dhaka for advanced treatment. Sonia’s parents and three siblings also died in the electrocution incident. He was the only survivor among the family members.

Sonia’s uncle Abdul Aziz confirmed her death on Wednesday (March 27) morning.

Abdul Aziz said that Sonia was first admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet. Doctors said that 25 percent of his body was burnt. He was taken to Dhaka on Tuesday night for better treatment. He died shortly after reaching there. He is returning home with the dead body.

The 11,000 volt rural power line was torn on Sonia’s tin homestead in the early hours of Tuesday morning. His father Faizur Rahman (50), mother Shiri Begum (45), elder sister Samia Sultana (14), Sabina Akhtar (11) and younger brother Sayem Ahmad (7) died on the spot due to electrocution.

Yesterday afternoon, the funeral of the five people was held in the grounds of the local Haji Inzad Ali High School. Thousands of people including district and upazila administration officials participated in it. Later, their bodies were buried side by side in the local cemetery.

Uncle Abdul Aziz said that Sonia will be buried next to them after the funeral today.
