Suspected members of terrorist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), have robbed the Sonali Bank’s Ruma Upazila branch in Bandarban and abducted the bank manager.
The incident took place around 9:00pm on Tuesday (April 2).
Ruma upazila nirbahi officer (acting) Md Didarul Alam confirmed the matter.
Witnesses said that around 70 to 80 armed members of KNF Ruma upazila parishad and snatched fire arms from the on-duty police and ansar members. Meanwhile, they looted the bank.
Quoting locals, Ruma upazila Chairman Uhalaching Marma said around 100 members of the KNF cordoned the area during Tarawih salah. Later, they kidnapped Sonali Bank manager Nizam Uddin.
Didarul Alam, acting upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) said KNF members looted Sonali Bank and they also took away four fire arms from police-ansar men.
