‘No case against BNP leaders and workers is political’

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, today (BNP) is crying everywhere, saying there is a case against them. They have to ask what are the cases? …cases of various crimes including arson, weapons smuggling, grenade attack. No case against BNP leaders and workers is political. They have committed a crime, legal action has been taken. That is the reality.

He said this on Friday morning at Ganabhaban during the greeting exchange ceremony with the leaders and workers of Krishak League on its foundation anniversary.

Sheikh Hasina said, they burnt 3 thousand 800 cars, buses, launches, trains. What will happen if there is no case against them? Any case against them is not a political case, every case is a case of arson, they killed people by fire, the incident they did on October 28, they set fire to the train while preventing the election, and burnt the mother and child, what is against those who did this? Will not sue? Do people worship them?
The prime minister also commented that the trial of these cases should be completed more quickly and those involved should be punished.

Pointing out that BNP is still getting a chance to speak because Awami League is not vindictive, Sheikh Hasina said, they are lucky that we are in power, they still get a chance to speak without seeing us as vindictive like them. They talk all day with the mic on, then say they don’t get a chance to speak.

Questioning whether all criminals in jails across the country belong to BNP or not, the Awami League chief said, as they (BNP) say they have arrested 6 million people, our jails do not even have the capacity for 6 million. Still, all the capacity is BNP people – that’s what they want to say. That means BNP commits all the crimes in Bangladesh.

Highlighting the torture of Awami League leaders and workers at various times, Sheikh Hasina said, “Today they shout torture on them… What torture is being done to them?” The torture they have done, the steam roller of torture that Ziaur Rahman has carried out on the Awami League since coming to power, the way they killed, after Khaleda Zia came, no Awami League leader and worker could stay at home after the election of 2001.

On the occasion of the founding anniversary, the party’s central leaders and workers were congratulated by Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, the organization’s president, agriculturist Sameer Chand and Acting General Secretary Biswanath Sarkar Bitu.

On this day (April 19) in 1972, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded the Krishak League.
