State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak has expressed regret and apologized for the kidnapping and beating of Chairman candidate Delwar Hossain and his brother in Singra Upazila Parishad elections of Natore.
He said, ‘I am ashamed, sad and apologetic about this incident. Those involved in this incident will be given fair trial. No one will be exempted.’
Delwar Hossain is currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak visited him at the hospital on Friday morning.
He went to Rajshahi airport by plane in the morning. From there went to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital to see Delwar Hossain. At that time some leaders of Singra Upazila Awami League were with him. He spoke to the sick Delwar Hossain and his two brothers. Apart from this, he inquired about his body to the doctor in charge and urged him to give the best treatment. Later, the state minister answered the questions of the journalists.
At that time, State Minister Palak said, ‘I was abroad. I returned to the country at one o’clock on Thursday night. However, I have always inquired about the incident from abroad. I could not have imagined that such an incident would happen on the soil of Natore. I am ashamed, sorry and apologize for this incident. Honorable Prime Minister is looking into this incident. Those involved in this incident will be given fair trial. No one will get without.
In that incident, Delwar Hossain’s brother filed a case with the police station as an anonymous accused. Police have arrested two people. One of them confessed to the crime and gave a statement in the court. In that statement, he said that they committed the incident on behalf of Awami League leader and election candidate Lutful Habib.
In response to the questions of journalists, Junaid Ahmed said, “I will not deny that Lutful Habib is my relative.” But neither he nor anyone else will get extra benefits due to kinship or political reasons. Rather, measures will be taken which will set an example for the MP-minister’s relatives. Regarding the accused persons, we will also take organizational measures on behalf of the party in a very short time.
Miscreants abducted Delwar Hossain and his brother and two Awami League leaders from in front of the Natore Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer’s office in a span of five hours last Monday. Later, the miscreants left Delwar Hussain unconscious in front of his village house.
The victims alleged that Singra Upazila Parishad chairman candidate Lutful Habib and his associates were involved in the incident. Lutful Habib Upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary and State Minister Junaid Ahmed’s brother-in-law.
