Shibli Rubayat reappointed as BSEC chairman

Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam has been reappointed as the chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for another term.

The Financial Institution Division under the Finance Ministry reappointed Shibli Rubayat as the chief of the capital market regulatory body for next four years.

 

A gazette notification, signed by Md Zahid Hossain, joint secretary of the Financial Institution Division under the Finance Ministry, has been issued in this regard on Sunday (April 28).

“As per the Section-5(6) of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act, 1993, Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam has been reappointed as chairman for a subsequent four-year term commencing from 17 May 2024 or the date of assumption of duties,” reads the notification.

Earlier, on April 4, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina consented to the ministry’s recommendation for his reappointment.

Prof Shibli Rubayat was appointed as the chairman of the BSEC in 2020.

He has dedicated over two decades to teaching finance, banking, and insurance, while also actively contributing to various businesses, chambers, and research endeavors both domestically and internationally within his fields.
