Ru-Pay card will be launched in Bangladesh, Taka-Pay in India

Both countries have agreed to launch RuPay Card in Bangladesh and Taka Pay Card in India using Unified Payments Interface-UPI.

This matter was discussed in a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Saturday.

Regarding the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two leaders recognized the importance of water resource management in bilateral relations. To advance water resources cooperation, both countries have decided to form a joint technical committee to initiate negotiations on the renewal of the Ganga Treaty. India has expressed interest in assisting Bangladesh in the conservation and management of the Teesta River. Bangladesh has reiterated its call for an early conclusion of the Teesta Water Sharing Agreement.

 

During the meeting, the two leaders appreciated the trend of increasing bilateral trade. Discussed possible ways to increase trade volume. Both leaders also mentioned increasing economic cooperation for the betterment of the people of the two countries. Bangladesh has requested the Indian side to forecast the supply of essential food items like rice, wheat, sugar, onion, ginger and garlic. Both sides noted that the early conclusion of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) would further boost ongoing cooperation in trade.

During the meeting, both sides recognized the importance of harnessing the potential of new and emerging areas of cooperation to enhance cooperation in the development of digitalization, peaceful use of outer space, joint small satellite projects.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Delhi on June 21 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is the first bilateral visit by a head of government to India after the BJP coalition formed the government for the third time in a row. Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
