President urges BCPS to play an effective role in producing specialist doctors

President Md. Sahabuddin urged BCPS to play an effective role in producing international quality expert doctors in various fields of medical science.

He gave this directive when a delegation of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) paid a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban today. Later, President’s Press Secretary Zainal Abedin briefed the journalists.

The President said that medical treatment is one of the fundamental rights of people. As a result of new innovations in information technology and science, medical science is also undergoing rapid changes.


He also urged giving preference to formal education as well as hands-on teaching method in producing expert doctors.

President Sahabuddin said that if international quality specialist doctors are produced in the country, the trend of going abroad for medical services will decrease.

He said, “Besides, valuable foreign currency will also be saved. People will also get better treatment at low cost.

The press secretary said that the President expressed his satisfaction with the activities of BCPS.

BCPS President Professor Mohammad Sahidullah led the delegation during the meeting.
He briefed the President about the academic activities and degree awarding process of BCPS.

Professor Sahidulla said that 8815 doctors have already received fellowship (FCPS) and 3791 doctors have received membership (MCPS) from BCPS.

He said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the Bengali nation, established BCPS on the model of the Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom on the order of the President on June 6, 1972. Since its inception, this college has been playing a significant role in the overall development of the country’s health system.
The concerned secretaries of the President’s office were present during the meeting.
